The VINimage Program
Terra Spase provides high-quality, high-resolution, remote-sensing based imagery products to California grape growers under the product name VINimage. Our VINimage program uses multi-spectral aerial imagery to classify and map vineyard canopy density.
 
History
The technology used in VINimage is an outgrowth of GRAPES and CRUSH, both projects coordinated by scientists from NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif. The GRAPES project demonstrated the potential application of remotely sensed, multi-spectral data in gauging the spread of phyloxera in north coast vineyards. In the CRUSH project, data analysis techniques refined in GRAPES were used to analyse healthy vineyards for variability in canopy density, information that has subsequently proven to be a valuable decision support tool for growers and winemakers alike. Our VINimage program, building on the technologies used in GRAPES and CRUSH, puts the power of remote sensing into the hands of grape growers throughout California.
 
VINimage Classified NDVI Imagery
The flagship of our VINimage program, our classified NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) image product provides multi-spectral data showing 9-12 classes of canopy density differentiation. Potential pre-harvest applications include water and canopy management, disease and crop pest control, nutrition monitoring and sugar sampling. Harvest applications include segmentation of vineyards by areas of similar canopy density, and estimation of potential crop yield when used in conjunction with ground based data.

VINimage Color Infrared Imagery
The same multi-spectral data used in our NDVI product is presented here as false color infrared composite imagery. This imagery can be used for delineating soil differences and spotting phylloxera infestations.
